We recently asked readers on the North Shore what the most romantic place in their community was — and the responses we received ranged from the serious to the romantic to hilariously funny.
Overall, readers like to spend their romantic evenings at home. Up and down the North Shore, from Somerville to Danvers to Georgetown, being home is the number one place you want to be when you’re being romantic.
Some readers have favorite places to eat when being romantic. In Malden, they love the Exchange Bistro and All Seasons Table. And while Saugus has a ton of places to eat, the most popular choice was Carmaleno’s Pushcart Restaurant or La Vita Mia.
But other people find these places great romantic eats: The Chart House in Beverly, 1640 Hart House in Ipswich, Bistro 5 in Medford, Tavern on the Green at Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Café Avelino or Hawthorne By-the-Sea in Swampscott. One person even said just going out for ice cream is great, as long as you’re heading over to Haley’s Ice Cream in Newburyport.
If you like a romantic spot, we had plenty of suggestions from readers for those, too: the Rose Garden in Lynch Park in Beverly, Fellsmere Pond in Malden, Fort Sewall or Preston Beach in Marblehead, or Fisherman’s Beach in Swampscott.
Other folks said sometimes, it’s just the feeling of romance that can be captured with a beautiful sunset or a scenic walk. In Georgetown, folks love Camp Denison on the lakeside when the sun is just going down and in Marblehead, it’s sitting on the benches at Crocker Park while looking over the harbor. In Melrose, it’s the gazebo at Ell Pond and in Salem, it’s a ride on the Salem Ferry.
Some of our funnier answers started out with: Are you serious? In [insert name of town here]??? One reader said it was the transfer station in his town while another thought maybe the local convenience store might be just right for that special moment. One reader even suggested under the stairs somewhere, although they never said exactly where.
But the cutest answer we got from you? The Winnie the Pooh who told us that the most romantic place to be is always with the one you love. Happy Valentine’s Day!
